Podcasting/Vodcasting
I knew nothing about podcasting, except that it was a little empty folder in my iPod! I have learned now that a podcast is not just an audio file housed on a server, but an audio file (or video in vodcasting) that requires a subscription. I learned that everything from Van Gogh to plumbing has been podcasted (can I make that a verb?) about by someone. I found that I prefer the vodcast format because I am more of a visual person, and my mind tends to wander if I'm just listening to words. I enjoyed finding vodcasts of some of my favoritebands' performances, and vodcasts about grooming dogs, and pruning trees. The most helpful site I found for information on podcasts in education is Poducation. This website details not only how to podcast, but why, and how it can benefit your classroom. I am most excited about the chance to allow students to create podcasts instead of, or in addition to, traditional essays/research papers/etc.

New Blog!
My name is Lesley, and this is the second blog I have created. My other blog is our family blog That's the Way the Cookie Crum-bles. I am egregiously remiss in posting to this blog; I think the last post was July of 2008!
About me: I am a Secondary English Education major, and also working toward French Education and ESL. I am 31 years old, and I have been married for 10 years to my husband Andrew. He is an elementary music and beginning band teacher, and he's about seven years older than me. We have two boys: nine-year-old Jackson and seven-year-old Samuel. I grew up on a horse farm, and animals that need to be rescued tend to find their way to our house. We have four dogs: Woody (Australian Shepherd/Beagle mix), Sophie (Cocker Spaniel/Bichon mix), Annie (Shih Tzu/Bichon mix), and Charlie (we think he is a Maltese, but we still aren't sure). I recently quit my job as Jr. High theatre arts teacher at Mooresville Christian Academy so I could concentrate on finishing school. I was also the drama director at our old church, Grace Church in Mooresville. I grew up in Plainfield, and moved to Scottsdale, AZ right after graduation. There, I attended Scottsdale Community College as a fine art major, but had to withdraw after my anorexia became too severe to function. I have dealt with OCD, eating disorders, and panic attacks my entire life. I finally got the anorexia under control, and enjoyed about six months of great health before my Thyroid completely died and I started gaining weight. Is that too much information? :-)
The experience of setting up my blog was no big deal since I have done it before. The hard part was finding all of the blogs I follow regularly and adding those using the add function. I would love to know how to add a slideshow without using photobucket or flickr, and how to use my own artwork as a template. I majored in Life Drawing and painting, so merging art with computers feels wrong to me. I would love to understand how to take such a sterile, technical instrument and make it feel warm and meaningful. I guess I don't really have any great tips to offer, just questions! This class is frightening to me because of my tech phobia, but I am excited to learn.
